Back in 2018, when my fellow educators learned about my pregnancy, I began to encounter a widely circulated notion among parents and teachers alike: “Just wait until you have the baby.” This phrase often carried an undertone of caution, suggesting that the realities of parenting would fundamentally change my perspective on teaching. Initially, I brushed it off, confident in my ability to balance both roles. However, as the months progressed and I prepared for motherhood, I started to understand the depth of this statement.
The transition from teacher to parent revealed unexpected challenges and insights. The patience I cultivated in the classroom became invaluable at home, while the empathy I developed for my students' struggles deepened my connection with my child. Each sleepless night and every joyful milestone reinforced the idea that teaching and parenting are not separate entities but intertwined experiences that shape one another. This journey has not only enriched my life but has also transformed my approach to education, making me a more compassionate and understanding teacher.
